IGNORANCE IS BLISS. Let’s just get that out of the way early on. Yeah, not all food joints are clean but that doesn’t mean eating there will kill you. I used to work as a dishwasher at a sushi bar. To keep the staff from being too close to the customers, we were denied the right to use the same bathroom as the patrons. Problem was, there was only one bathroom. We were instructed to pee in an industrial sink whenever the tingles and jingles began to set in. But you know what? We served the best damn sushi in the area. Just because a restaurant isn’t clean, doesn’t mean the food is tainted too. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve earned the ever-prestigious “food handler’s license” and follow all the set safety standards. But not everyone does. Does that mean you’ll get cholera every time you walk into a Denny’s? No. Well, maybe at a Denny’s but otherwise, no. Food-borne illnesses will shut a restaurant down. At the most, you could be at risk of food poisoning but restaurants with that reputation don’t stay open for long. My advice is to find a place that is a local favorite and has been in business for several years, withstanding the tests of tummy and time.
